Favourites | February Favourites

February Favourites

Another month has gone by in a flash and that means one thing... it's time to share my favourite products with you! Let's get straight into it:

February Favourites: Nuxe Lip Balm

Firstly I have the Nuxe lip balm which is just delicious. It smells like lemon and honey and is very thick and luxurious so does a great job at nourishing my lips. Unlike other lip balms I don't have to constantly re-apply it during the day to keep my lips moisturised as it lasts for hours and a little goes a long way so although this small pot it pretty pricey it lasts ages. I have had mine for months and use it daily.. it's barely even dented!

February Favourites: The Body Shop Baked Blush

Next is a blush I recently re-discovered when I was re-organising my makeup and has been somewhat overlooked in the Winter months. This pretty baked blush is by The Body Shop and is a mixture of two shades, peach and a pretty pink. When swirled together they create a natural looking blush when applied to the cheeks with lots of shimmer so I never wear this with a highlighter.

This blush is great to use during Spring and Summer but I'm also enjoying it now as it makes a refreshing change and gives my cheeky a healthy glow.

February Favourites: Maybelline Dream Touch Blush

Next is a blush I bought last month and have been loving ever since. The Maybelline Dream Touch Blush is so soft and creamy it's a dream to work with and is perfect during the morning when I don't have much time. The shade I have is peach which gives my cheeks a natural healthy glow all day. It's very subtle so can easily be paired with a variety of makeup looks.

February Favourites: MAC Hue Lipstick

Next is a MAC lipstick I've had for ages which is called Hue. This is a pale nude which on it's own doesn't work too well for me as it washes me out but when combined with a lip gloss it gives my lips a pretty splash of baby pink which works beautifully with lots of different make up looks.

I've been using this combination a lot over the past month for work because I don't like to wear too much make-up and don't often go for a bright lip so this is perfect. It looks lovely with a simple neutral eye or a heavier smokey one so is pretty versatile.

February Favourites: MAC Soft and Gentle

Next is an old favourite I hadn't been reaching for much until recently and that is MAC Soft and Gentle. This product looks so pretty in the pan and definitely seems to be never ending because it doesn't matter how much I use it, it never seems to go down which is obviously a good thing.

Soft and Gentle looks gorgeous when added to my cheeks and brow bones and it definitely gives my face a healthy glow. It's a very pretty product that I think will always have a place in my make-up collection.

February Favourites: Revlon Kissable Lip Stain

Last but not least, this month I have been loving my Revlon Kissible Lip Balm. I have this product in the colour Crush which is a beautiful rich berry that reminds me of MAC Rebel lipstick.

I've found the best way to use this lip product is to apply it using a brush as I can get a cleaner line and a less patchy effect. This also means it wears off more evenly too although it is pretty long lasting. I like the Revlon Kissable lip balms because they are comfortable to wear, don't dry my lips and are available in lots of shades.

Well that's it for another month. I look forward to seeing what my favourite are during March.

What do you think of my favourites?

Review | Maybelline Peach Dream Touch Blush

Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in Peach
Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in Peach
Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in Peach
Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in Peach

Maybelline is a well known highstreet brand and one which I have used since I first started using make-up.  I've tried a variety of their products over the years, some I have loved and others I haven't been so keen on but my latest purchase was the Dream Touch blush in the shade 04, Peach which I adore.

The Dream Touch Blush comes in a compact glass pot which is consistent with other products by Maybelline  such as the Color Tattoo eyeshadows which I can't rave about enough. You can see a pop of colour hidden behind the glass so if you own multiple products it is quick to find the one you need and the lid also represents the shade inside which is handy.

The formula of this blush is thick, creamy and silky smooth which makes the perfect consistency for blending onto the cheeks with a flawless finish. I find it applies equally as well whether I use my finger tips or a brush which means this product is perfect to pop into your hand bag for any touch ups that are needed during the day. It is also no scent.

The pigmentation of the cream blush is exactly what I look for. It is pigmented enough to add a gorgeous pop of colour to the cheeks but not so much so it is hard to work with which is one of the main reasons why I use this blush so much. When I do my makeup in the morning for work I don't have as much time as I would like so this no fuss, blendable formula works very well for me.

Peach is a very pretty pale shade which gives my cheeks a subtle, natural glow. It has a very slight shimmer which looks beautiful when it catches the light without making me look like a disco ball and the product feels very light and comfortable to wear. This blush also layers very well so if you want a richer colour on the cheeks you simply add a little more product to achieve the look you want.

I'm really loving this product at the moment and it has quickly become one of my 'go to' blushes. Sadly, there aren't many shades available in this range but the others look gorgeous too so I'm definitely keen to give them a try. I also hope the range will be expanded... fingers crossed. If you want to try out the Maybelline Dream Touch Blushes they are available at Superdrug for £6.49.

What do you think of the Maybelline Deam Touch Blush? What is your favourite cream blush?

FOTD | Every Day Spring Make-up Look

Spring Make-up

Hello Beauties! I took a a quick snap last weekend when I was testing the lighting before taking my blog photo's and filming a You Tube video (see my Channel here) but I actually quite like it because it's natural. I had just washed and dried my hair so this is what is looks like before any styling, curly and wavy. If I leave it to dry completely naturally it goes more curly but that takes so long I only really do it when I'm on holiday. As I was just chilling at home I wanted to be super comfortable so am sporting my boyfriends University hoodie, not the most glamorous look but cosy! The make-up I'm wearing is below:

- Foundation - Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow
- Concealer - Benefit Erase Paste
- Bronzer - Soap and Glory Solar Powder
- Highlighter - MAC Soft and Gentle
- Eyeshadow - MAC Ricepaper and Knight Divine
- Eyeliner - Collection black liquid liner
- Mascara - Maybelline The Falsies
- Lip Stain - Revlon Balm Stain in Honey
- Lip Gloss - Urban Decay Obsessed Lip Junkie

FOTD | Spring Every Day Make-Up

Every Day Spring Make-up

Hello Everyone! Just a quick post today and one was was inspired but a selfie I took this morning before filming a You Tube video. Yes, you read that correctly.. it's been 11 months since I last filmed but I've decided to take it up again seeing's as I've now got a camera with a flip screen and believe me it makes things a whole lot easier! For anyone who is interested, the video will be up within the next hour (it's uploading now) and will be appearing on my channel here. My first video's are extremely cringe worthy and really hard to film because I didn't have the right equipment or lighting but I'm pretty pleased with how today's one turned out :)

Anyway, onto today's blog post, a simple Spring every day make-up look. The picture quality isn't the best because I took it on my phone I'm afraid but hopefully it shows the make-up well enough for this short post :) The look I was going for was simple, girly, fresh and natural which I think I achieved. The products I used were:

Primer - Smashbox Photo Finish Original | Review | Link
Foundation - Rimmel Match Perfection in Ivory | Review | Link
Concealer - Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer | Review | Link

Battle of the Drugstore Mascara's Round 1

Drugstore Mascara's Drugstore Mascara's

Mascara is one of the beauty products I like to mix up so I'm not particularly loyal to one brand or whether they are high end or drugstore. In fact, if anything I lean more towards drugstore mascara's because I think they are equally as good as high end and they are obviously much cheaper.

Today's post is the beginning of my 'Battle of the Mascara's' mini series where I will compare a variety of mascara's which are both drugstore and high end. You may also see more in depth reviews of each included on on my blog which will have more pictures so if you're interested finding out more about a particular one keep an out out for those. I haven't included all pictures here because this post is already pretty picture heavy!

Onto the mascara's.....

17 Va Va Voom / £6.29 / Link
Drugstore Mascara's

When I bought Va Va Voom by 17 I was looking for a cheap drug store mascara that wasn't jet black as I wanted a less defined eye to wear to work sometimes.  At the time I was shopping in a small Boots at a train station so there wasn't a huge variety of brands on offer but the one that caught my eye was 17 which I hadn't thought about buying a product from since my early-mid teens.

If I'm honest, I didn't think I'd want to re-purchase this mascara again but it's actually really good and has taught me not to dismiss a brand just because I don't necessarily fit the market they are targeting.

Va Va Voom mascara is a gorgeous deep brown which looks lovely with brown eye liner for a simple every day look. The brush is chunky which is my favourite type as it opens up the lashes nicely and applies the product evenly across them all without clumping. This mascara makes my lashes well defined and voluminous and now it has run out I actually really miss using it.

Maybelline The Falsies / £7.99 / Link
Drugstore Mascara's

Since buying The Falsies I've had a love/hate relationship with it. At the time of my purchase there was a lot of hype around this mascara so I had very high hypes but when I started using it I found I got mixed results each time which was pretty frustrating.  Sometimes my lashes would look amazing with extra length and volume added but other times they would be a clumpy mess which more often or not I didn't have time to rectify before going out.

You can imagine I was pretty disappointed with this product so after a couple of weeks of perseverance it got put into one of my Muji drawers to be forgotten about until the last couple of months. I'm not sure what made me start using The Falsies again but this time I decided to scrape a little of the excess product off before applying the formula to my lashes and that technique works a treat.  I can now happily use this mascara every day and rely on consistent and beautiful results. I would even go as far as saying this is probably my favourite Drugstore mascara at the moment.

The wand for The Falsies is thin, curved and bendy so it works really well with the lashes and it's easy to apply the mascara to the corner lashes as well as the bottom as the wand isn't chunky.

Soap and Glory Thick and Fast / £10.00 / Link
Drugstore Mascara's

Next is the Soap and Glory Thick and Fast mascara which I first tried when it came in one of the huge Gift Sets they create for Christmas. The formula is black but not very, very dark so it looks great to use during the day and equally as well for evening looks unless you like a jet black finish.

The wand for Thick and Fast again is chunky which I really like because it coats the lashes well without causing any clumping but it isn't so large that you can't get to the corner or bottom lashes.  The bristles are spaced wide apart which at first I thought may mean the lashes aren't spread out well but this isn't the case at all.

As always, Soap and Glory have done really well with this product.  I'm yet to find one that isn't a high quality and does what it claims on the package.

Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless / £7.99 / Link
Drugstore Mascara's

The last mascara I will be talking about today is the Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless which I bought on a bit of a whim during a beauty haul last year.  It's pretty rare for me to buy any beauty products without having read some reviews on them and in this instance unfortunately my spontaneity didn't pay off as sadly I'm not blown away by this mascara. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad but I just don't think it compares to the others features in this post or other I have tried.

Lash Accelerator Endless has a thin plastic wand which aren't my favourite as I find they have a higher tendency to clump and I just don't enjoy using them. Unfortunately, I do find this formula can clump a little on application if there is too much on the brush but if you scrape it off beforehand this rarely happens. It applies nicely to all of my lashes including those that are harder to reach and my eyes do look more defined but not as much so as the others mascara's. I also find this product stays wet for much longer so I end up getting is on my face and throughout the day occasionally it does rub off a little.

I still have some of this mascara left and I will definitely finish using it but I do find it to be pretty average so I wouldn't buy it again.

RE-DISCOVERED PRODUCTS

Empties Empties Empties

Although the weather is pretty awful here in the UK, especially for those poor people where there has been flooding over the past couple of weeks there has been the odd blue sky and spot of sunshine where I live.  This combined with rooting around in my make-up collection has inspired today's post featuring products that I recently re-discovered. I love it when that happens because in a strange way it feels like you've just purchased them and they are brand new again. Here are the re-discovered products I have been loving:

Maybelline The Falsies // Link

When I first bought this mascara last year it was because I gave into the hype around it. The Falsies seemed to pop up on every blog and You Tube channel I followed so I eventually gave in and bought it.  If I'm honest when I first got it I wasn't a fan at all.  I found it to be very thick and clumpy and after just a few uses it ended up in the bottom of my make-up drawer to be completely forgotten about until the last month.  I'm not sure what made me try it again but this time when using it I decided to scrape the excess product off before using it and it turns out when you do this, The Falsies is amazing! It separates my lashes beautifully, my eyes look defined, my lashes full and lengthened and overall I've been very impressed.  It's a shame to have to scrape the product off first but this isn't something new to me as I also have to do this with my YSL Shocking Mascara.  I never thought I'd say it but I'm converted and love this mascara, I'm so glad I gave it a second chance.

Barry M Gelly Nail Paints // Link

I love Barry M nail polishes but as I mostly have only bright colours suitable for Spring and Summer they have been a little un-loved over the past few months.  This all changed a few weeks ago when I began mixing up my nail polishes as I was getting a little bored of my dark shades and berry tones.  My favourite of all the polishes in the Barry M range are the gel polishes and it's so nice to be using them again, even if it is a little early for these shades!

Soap and Glory Solar Powder // Link

Since discovering Nars Laguna bronzer all the others in my collection haven't really been looked at until this month when I re-discovered Soap and Glory Solar Powder looking a bit sorry for itself in my make-up drawer.  After a bit of a tidy up it looked as good as new and I've been really enjoying using it again as it makes a change to Laguna.  Solar Powder is a very pretty, wearable shade which gives the skin a natural glow so it's perfect for me to use with my pasty complexion at the moment.

L'Oreal Glam Shine Lip Glosses // Link

When I was younger I used to wear lip glosses non-stop.  There was never a day that went past without me constantly topping it up and being on the hunt for a new one but as I've got older and delved into the world of lip crayons, stains and lipsticks they haven't had much of a look in.   After re-organising my make-up collection a few weeks ago, however, I found my L'Oreal Glam Shine lip glosses and remembered how lovely they are.  Since, I have been wearing them every day either on their own or over the top of my lipsticks and it's been really nice to have an added sheen to my lips and re-discover these pretty products.  The wonderful thing about these glosses is the formula because they are not sticky in the slightest so they are very comfortable to wear.. I also love the heart shaped applicator as you get precise yet quick application.

Dior Addict Lip Gloss

The first thing that attracted me to the Dior lip glosses is the beautiful packaging.  They look stunning sitting in the displays with the transparent and silver casings containing sparkly product waiting to be used.  Again, this is a lip gloss which has a lovely formula because it isn't sticky so it is comfortable to wear and I wore it a lot over the Summer last year when I first bought it.  In the lead up to Spring I can imagine I will also get a lot of use out of it... It's too pretty to stay in the drawer!

What do you think of my picks? What are your re-discovered products?

Maybelline Baby Lips Review

Maybelline Baby Lips

Maybelline Baby Lips

Maybelline Baby Lips

Maybelline Baby Lips Pink Punch swatch

The Maybelline Baby Lips are one of those products that is surrounded by hype.  Before they even hit the UK everyone had heard of them and was itching to try them and I expect like me you haven't stopped hearing about them over the past few weeks. I must admit I didn't really get why there was so much hype about a lip balm and I wasn't bothered about trying this product when it did launch in the UK.  However, when I was in Boots the other day I saw the Baby Lips hanging on a display and thought I'd see what all the fuss was about.

Priced at only £2.99 the Maybelline Baby Lips are super cheap and the packaging is adorable.  I love the bright summery colours and graffiti writing which pops out.  There are 6 different Baby Lips included in the range but so far I haven't found them to be widely available.  I've mostly just seen the clear ones or 'Pink Punch' which I will speaking about today.

Pink Punch is a gorgeous bright fuchsia pink shade  which at first may seem scary to people who aren't used to wearing a bright lip colour.  However, this shade is perfect for people who love a bit of colour on their lips but don't want something very bright and obvious because the finish is sheer.  This beautiful shade will also appeal to those of you who love a bright lip.  It will never be as bright as a fuchsia lipstick but the colour is buildable and you can get a lovely pop of colour on your lips.

The moisturising properties of the Baby Lips are said to provide 8 hours of hydration which is quite some claim but one that I fully agree with.  I don't find it necessary to keep re-applying throughout the day because my lips do not become dry but I do anyway just because of the colour pay off.  This is a great two in one product and one that can also be used on the go without a mirror as it is sheer and not messy. The formulation is gorgeously creamy and soft and the smell takes me back to my childhood as it reminds me of Hubba Bubba bubble gum.

So that's it.. I've given into the hype and I must agree the Maybelline Baby Lips are completely worth it.  They are brilliant value for money, (only £2.99) give you a gorgeous splash of colour and are great at moisturising your lips.

Have you given into the hype yet?

Maybelline Color Tattoo Review

Maybelline Color Tattoo

Hello Everyone!

I hope you're all well.  Regular readers of my blog would have noticed that I have already done a review post one of the Maybelline Color Tattoo's (read the review on Pink Gold here) but since, I have bought three more so I decided to do another review of them so I could share the additional shades I bought with you.

So the new Color Tattoo's I bought are, On and On Bronze, Eternal Gold and Light in Purple:

Maybelline Color Tattoo

These are all really beautiful colours and are very pigmented.  They also look exactly the same on your lid as they do in the pan so you can get a really good idea of the look you're going to get with them.. there aren't any nasty surprises!  You also get loads of product which would take an absolute age to get through so they are great value for money.

The consistency of each colour is soft and creamy but I have found that the application and the amount you can blend them differs.  I have found that Pink Gold and Eternal Gold are slightly harder to work with as they dry a little quicker and do not cover the lid as evenly as Light in Purple and On and On Bronze.  These latter two colours are very blendable and can be applied onto your lid beautifully and quickly with only your fingers.  Pink Gold and Eternal Gold, however, apply a little more patchy.

I've had a play around with all of these colours for a while and I have found that On and On Bronze and Light in Purple are brilliant for all over lid colours or blended into the crease whereas Pink Gold and Eternal Gold look amazing in your inner corner to add an extra flash of colour and lighten your eyes, making them bigger.

The staying power of all three colours is incredible.  Wherever you have applied it on your eye or underneath they stay in place all day without primer and do not crease at all.  I can't quite get over how good they are! The swatches I took for this post, for example weren't impossible to get off but they did take quite a lot of scrubbing when using only water and a little soap.  When using makeup remover they come off pretty easily.

I really like the Maybelline Color Tattoo's and I would even go as far as saying they are comparable to the MAC Paint Pots but of course at a fraction of the price.  I can't wait for more shades to become available in the UK.

The Maybelline Color Tattoo's are available at Superdrug for £4.99 each.

What is your favourite colour tattoo?

Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer Review

Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer

Today I will be talking about the Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer by Maybelline.  This concealer has a gel based formula which is best used to cover dark circles under the eyes and minor blemishes.  The formula also diffuses light which means as well as concealing it illuminates areas making your skin look bright and healthy.

This concealer is available in 6 shades which although is small and won't suit all skin types is a much wider variety than other concealers on the market:

- 320 Ivory
- 310 Radiant
- 340 Buff
- 330 Nude
- 350 Beige
- 360 Honey

Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer

The packaging of this concealer is in the style of a pen, with a small brush at one end and a twist dispenser at the other. This is compact and slim line so is perfect to pop in your handbag to use throughout the day if necessary.  When first using this product you need to twist the applicator several times before any concealer materialises from the centre of the brush bristles but after this you have to twist it very little for the product to appear.  I have a love hate relationship with this packaging.  I do like the idea of the brush and twist concept but this style of packaging means that you don't get as much product (you actually only get half of the middle of the pen filled with product.. the rest is all the twist mechanism) and therefore I don't think it is great value for money.  I also find it hard to control how much product to dispense because you can't see how much is coming out..  Despite this, this product is light, very creamy and blendable so you're not left in a gloopy mess if you get too much.  It is manageable and doesn't affect the appearance of the concealer but it is wasteful.  Lastly, although the brush is soft and nice to use it makes the lid messy if you do not clean it and it also isn't very hygienic to leave the product dry on it and then re-use which I admit I do at times because I'm lazy!

Moving on to the actual concealer, as mentioned it has a creamy texture of a medium thickness.  It blends quickly and evenly into your skin and covers dark areas around your eyes well (I have never used this to cover blemishes).  I think it is most suitable for people with oily-combination skin as the formula is quite dry as it settles.  This isn't so much a problem if it is fully blended into your skin but if you miss a bit it takes some effort to remove and can look cakey.  I have found moisturising before using this product gives you the best results but even with this sometimes it can look a little patchy and dry if not blended properly - not good if you're rushing and not being as careful as maybe you should!

This product isn't bad but it hasn't wowed me either.  I have used it every day since buying it because it does the job and is quick and easy to use but I wouldn't rush out to buy it again because you don't get that much product for the price and sadly it's too dry for my skin. This concealer is available at Boots for £6.99.

Rating: 3/5

NOTD // Maybeliine

NOTD // Maybeliine

Hello Everyone!

Today's post is a NOTD using this gorgeous pink/purple polish from the MNY Maybelline range (unfortunately, this varnish doesn't have a name (boooo)).

This is a really lovely polish and after two coats you get an even coverage which for me stayed chip free for a week when applied with both base and top coat.  These are the cheapest Maybelline polishes and when priced at only £2.99 at Superdrug are very impressive.

NOTD // Maybeliine

I really love MNY polishes and I will definitely be buying more of them!

Have you tried any MNY polishes? What did you think?
