Fashion | Prom Dress Predictions

New Look Prom Predictions

When I was at school one of the most exciting times of the year was prom and we all spent a huge amount of time discussing our dresses, accessories and makeup plus of course shopping for them. I've got a lot of special memories from the proms I went to it's definitely something which is becoming more and more popular.

Prom dresses have changed a lot over the decades and I've found it really interesting to look back and see what they were like. Fashion's always come back sooner or later. In 1956 it was all about the traditional long dress with plenty of embellishments, in 1970 the focus was on even longer dresses with possibly a train but little or no embellishments such as sequins and the fabrics were often floral or pastel shades. In the 1980's the main trend were taffeta dresses with shoulder pads and ruffles featuring neon colours. These dresses couldn't have been more different the previous two decades. Nowadays, dresses vary in shape and colour whether they be fish tail, figure hugging or feature beautiful empire waists. Colours range from black to vibrant.

The picture above shows what my prom predictions are for 2015. I think 2015 will see dresses with some detailing such as sequins, beading and or lace but in a short length which is above the knee. Equally I think we will see more simple dresses where the detailing will be with the fabric and the way it folds/hangs rather than extra embellishments. I think loose fitting dresses will be more popular than those that are figure hugging and classic black being the most popular, as well as metallics.

Whether you're looking for a prom dress, planning your accessories or finding a date I hope you have a lovely time! Let me know what your 2015 prom predictions are below.

You can check out more dresses on the New Look website.

Wish List | My Current Wish List

My Current Wish List

Hello Everyone! It's been a while since I published a wish list so I thought I would send share of the items I'm currently lusting after. This time my list isn't specific to beauty or fashion and is instead a real mixture of things.. here goes....

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Fragrance | The Fragrance Shop | £64.50

I first smelt this fragrance at an event with Debenhams last year and loved it. It's a really feminine, girly scent that is sweet and slightly floral too. From what I remember it would be perfect to wear during both the day and evening plus the packaging is gorgeous. This is definitely a fragrance I would love to add to my collection!

Faded Skinny Jeans | New Look | £22.99

Despite having a ridiculous amount of jeans in my wardrobe not all of them fit as well as I'd like so I'm after a new pair. I've tried New Look skinny jeans before and been impressed by them so I'd like to add this gorgeous dark faded pair to my collection in time for Autumn/Winter. As the weather in the UK has completely changed (Summer is well and truly over) I will definitely be getting a lot of wear out of them!

Kitchen Aid | Selfridges | £429

I love baking as I find it relaxing and enjoy creating and sharing different sweet treats with my friends and family. One key thing missing from my kitchen, however, is a kitchen aid which would make my life a lot easier. At the moment whenever I bake I do it all by hand which is much more time consuming so I'd love to have one of these. They are available in so many gorgeous colours too, particularly the deep and light pinks.

Clarins Eye Quartet Mineral Palette | Boots | £32.00

One of my favourite make-up products are eyeshadow palettes because you can create so many different looks with them plus they are easy to store and travel with. I much prefer buying a palette that has a few shades that work well together than have lots of loose shades floating around my make-up drawer and when I spotted this beauty on Beky Lou's Blog it was a must to be added on my wish list. The colours all look gorgeous and I think they would work really well with my blue eyes and brown hair.

Maxy Shoe | Kurt Geiger | £295

Since spotting a similar pair of Rose Gold strappy sandles in Kurt Geiger not so long ago I have thought about them ever since and would love to add something similar to my shoe collection. Rose gold is such a pretty shade and works really well with a multitude of other colours and outfits so you could easily get a lot of wear out of them. I also love how they are different from your classic gold or silver shoe.

Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake | Revlon | £5.99

When the Revlon lip butters were first launched I gave into the hype and purchased a couple which I have really enjoyed using ever since (besides the one that melted.. oops). As they are so comfortable to wear and hydrating to the lips I'd love to add 1-2 more to my collection and the one I'd most like is Strawberry Shortcake as it looks like a really easy to wear, pretty shade.

New Look Wish List

Monochrome Stripe Waffle Textured Top / £14.99

One of my favourite shops on the high street is New Look because they offer a huge range of stylish, high quality products at a low price.  Every time I go in there I find something I like and I love that I can shop in there for outfits for the day, evening and work.  It means hassle free shopping for me and I also find the sizes come up pretty consistently so I don't find the need to try on everything I purchase which is great.

I'm a big fan of skater skirts and dresses because they are so easy to wear and really suit my hour glass figure.  I've been wearing them to work a lot lately and I love the look of this black one at New Look. I would team it with the black and white top to rock the monochrome look, a cute yet simple outfit.

The other items on my wish list are more casual, the first being light skinny jeans. Admittedly, I already have a large collection of jeans but I am yet to find that pair that fit me perfectly so I'm still on the hunt for a some.  Most of my jeans are also dark so it would make a nice change to have a lighter pair.  I would team these skinny jeans with both of the tops pictured above. I love the colour of the pastel peplum top and I love that it has a low neckline rather than the high neckline these tops normally have as again, it's make a nice change.  The last top in my wish list is this tartan inspired casual shirt which I think would look cute with the jeans or with treggins.  I haven't got any tops like this in my collection at the moment but my friend has some and I love the look.

What do you think of the items on my wish list?

My Favourite High Street Shops

Favourite shops

Last week I featured a blog post about my favourite online beauty websites so it feels right to also include a post about my favourite places to shop on the High Street.  I tend to buy a lot more by shopping in store rather online so this post will feature a selection of my favourite beauty, fashion and home picks!

New Look // Link

I remember shopping at New Look a lot in my early teens but for some reason stopped for a good number of years after that.  I started shopping there in the past few years and I'm absolutely loving it.  I think New Look are really on top of their game and I find I buy products there for day, night and work.  Their prices are also very reasonable which makes them appeal even more.

Jane Norman // Link

This has been a shop I have loved since I was a teen because I find their clothes a little different to what other stores on the high street have to offer.  Over the years if I'm honest, I've noticed the price has crept up but the quality crept down so I'm finding I'm shopping less in there but I love their style and if I'm ever struggling for an outfit whether it be for day or night I know I will get it here!

Debenhams // Link

Debenhams is a great department store that sells a multitude of products ranging from beauty to fashion and home. I particularly love looking around the beauty section and always get my eyebrows threaded here. The homeware is also a favourite!

Selfridges // Link

The Selfridges beauty haul is amazing whether you or looking to buy something in particular or just browsing.  It would be amazing to be able to wonder around there without all the crowds and really take in the beauty of the store.  The other departments are also just as great so it is very easy to spend many hours in here!

Harrods // Link

Harrods holds special memories for me because I have been going there with my parents my entire life.  I love how exclusive and special it feels and it's been interesting to see how it has changed over the years.  It offers a huge amount of products and even though I've been going there forever the store is so huge I still get lost almost every time (my sense of direction is really bad).

Boots // Link

Being a beauty blogger this one is a pretty obvious pick! I like the layout of the product displays in Boots and the staff are always helpful.  I love that there is always one near by and that they have such a large product range that is often on special offers too.

Superdrug // Link

Superdrug is another obvious pick but I only tend to go in there to buy products that aren't available in Boots because I prefer it.  I love that they stock Essie, Sleek and MUA in particular. There is often a bargain to be had in Superdrug which makes it very tempting to buy products from here!

Primark // Link

I'm always amazed at how low the prices are at Primark and am suprised I didn't start shopping in their sooner.  This is definitely the place to go if you want to pick up a bargain and the latest trends!

Pandora // Link

Pandora sells beautiful jewellery and I often find myself in there admiring it.  As it is on the pricey side I don't regularly buy items from there but I am always adding more to my wish list and enjoying the new collections that come out.  The Valentines one this year looks beautiful! Pandora display their products perfectly and the shops is light and airy.  I love it.

Dorothy Perkins // Link

Although Dorothy Perkins is a little more expensive than some other clothing stores on the high street I often buy things for work in there.  The quality is great as well as the fit and I love that I can easily achieve a smart casual look with very little effort.

Laura Ashley // Link

Laura Ashley is a great store for homeware and I love taking a peak at all the lovely things they have in there.  It's one of those stores where I could easily spend a lot of money because they are all so pretty so it's lucky they often have big sales!

House of Fraser  // Link

There seems to be a theme here with the department stores but I really love them because they offer so much. House of Fraser is probably the one I shop in least often but there isn't a particular reason for that.  They do however, have amazing shoe sales where I have picked up some great bargains!

Marks and Spencer // Link

If you had said to me 10 years ago M&S would be appearing in this post I would never have believed it.  I remember going here with mum and dad as a child and finding it terribly boring but now I'm older I really appreciate the quality of their products and absolutely love their home department.

This post has become much bigger than I expected because as I wrote it I kept thinking of more and more stores to mention! This is by no means all of them but it gives you an insight into my little world of shopping.

New Look Microwavable Wheat Owl Review

New Look Heat Up Owl

Over the past couple of weeks the temperature has definitely dropped in the UK and I am really feeling the chill. I am one of those people that always seems to be cold unless I'm relaxing on a beach in a hot climate so I try and find as many ways as possible to keep warm.

One thing I love are these microwavable animals that I noticed started appearing in stores a few years ago.  Others I own have a removable pouch full of beans you microwave but this adorable owl is simpler to use because you simply put the whole thing in the microwave for up to two minutes and it's toasty warm! It also has a subtle scent of lavender so is really relaxing to use in the evenings whilst chilling in front of the TV with some candles alight.

You can buy this adorable owl from New Look for £9.99.  It is definitely a cute alternative to the traditional hot water bottle!

What do you do to keep warm in the winter?

Autumn Winter Ankle Boots

Tan Buckle Autumn Winter Ankle Boots from New Look

Black Autumn Winter Ankle Boots from New Look

Brown Stud Autumn Winter Ankle Boots from New Look

I've said it before and I'll say it again.. I'm a little addicted to shoes/boots.  Three new perfect Autumn/Winter additions to my collection are all very different from each other and any I already own and they are all from New Look.  New Look are really on top of their game at the moment.  I used to shop there when I was around 14 and then seemed to grow out of it a bit and other shops like Topshop, H&M and Jane Norman became my 'go to' stores but now that has all changed.  New Look is by far one of my favourite shops and I love to go in there and see what treats they have on offer.

Black Ankle Boots

These black ankle boots are made from real leather with a rough, matte finish.  The block heel means they should be comfortable to wear for several hours if not all day and they are perfect for both casual and evening wear.  The boots have a round toe and black inside zip also.  I love the simple, no fuss design and envisage me wearing these boots a lot of the coming months whether it be with skirts, dresses or trousers.

Tan Buckle Ankle Boots

These tan ankle boots are really unusual and nothing like any in my collection.  In store I probably wouldn't have thought twice about buying them but I actually spotted them on the new look website on one of the models and loved them.  Again, these boots can be worn with skirts, dressers or trousers and could be worn for both during the day and evening.  I love the double buckle detailing at the side, the cut outs and contrasting dark brown heel against the tan.  I can't wait to wear them!

Brown Stud Ankle Boots

The brown ankle boots sport a distressed leather look and are an unusual shade.  To me, they aren't tan but aren't quite brown either, instead somewhere in between.  They have gorgeous gold stud detailing on the outta edge and top as well as a double zip on the inside and outside of the boot.  The outside one is purely for decoration only.  Again, these boots have a round toe and it is most likely I will wear them with jeans rather than skirts and dresses.  The chunky block heel isn't too high so these boots should be pretty comfortable to wear for a few hours.

What boots are your favourite?
