LUSH SEANIK SOLID VOLUME SHAMPOO BAR REVIEW

Lush Seanik Solid Shampoo Bar This photo was taken with my phone under shop lights and is not the true colour. The below photo's show it in true form.Lush Seanik Solid Shampoo Bar

Hello Lovelies! Today's blog post is about a recently purchased treat from Lush.  I've been a big fan of the bath bombs, bubble bars, shower gels and liquid shampoo's for years but in the last few weeks I have been trying out a product unlike any I have used before, a solid shampoo bar.  I've looked at this product once before in Lush, so long ago I can't remember and I was put off because I thought it would be a lot of hassle to use and if I'm honest I did find the idea of solid shampoo to be pretty strange.  However, a few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend a Lush event in London where we were able to speak with their experts about the products and view demonstrations.  After always being a little intrigued by this unusual product I asked one of the girls about it and she kindly told me more about the product and demonstrated how to use it. At this point I was totally sold so decided to treat myself to one.

Lush offer several different solid shampoo bars in their range so it was pretty hard to choose just one but in the end I went for Seanik which is said to add volume. Being someone who has long but fine hair I need all the help I can get when it comes to volume so I'm always trying out new products. I had high hopes for this one.

Seanik is a gorgeous bright blue solid round bar that contains seaweed, sea salt and lemon.  The mixture of these ingredients is said to add shine and volume to hair as well it make it soft.  Sounds perfect right? Since purchasing this product I've used it every other time I've washed my hair as I like to mix up the shampoo's I use and every time I have been very impressed by the results.  My hair does have a beautiful shine and I would even go as far as saying that this solid shampoo adds more volume to my hair than any other shampoo I have tried thanks to the sea salt. The volume is added from root to tip and it doesn't make my hair frizzy so I don't necessarily have to style it if I don't want to and unlike some other volume shampoo's I have used in the past even after straightening, my hair is still full of volume.  On the down side though, I don't find this shampoo makes my hair particularly soft so without fail I use a conditioner (although I always do anyway!).

The scent of Seanik is very hard to describe so I would definitely recommend taking a look at it in Lush but it contains mimosa, jasmine and orange flower essential oils which gives a gorgeous floral fragrance.  It is a pretty, subtle scent which lingers for a while after washing your hair which I really like.

Unfortunately, there are a couple of downsides to using a solid shampoo bar. Firstly, I find it a little messy to store because after using it I leave it on the side of the bath which leaves a blue ring.  It isn't a big deal to me because it's easy to clean but it isn't quite as tidy as popping your shampoo back in the cupboard.  I also wonder how easy this product will be to use as it gets smaller.  At the moment I use it in two ways. I either hold it and rub my hands together with a little water so it foams and then put it on my hair or directly rub the bar on my hair.  Both methods work well and I think it's pretty much just down to personal preference what you choose to do but as the bar gets smeller I think this may get a little more tricky. On a more positive note, although this shampoo bar is only small, for mid-long hair I have been advised you can get around eighty washes out of it which is amazing. Due to the size, this is also the perfect product to take on holiday as it will take up much less room in you case than a bulky bottle.. so that means more space for shoes and clothes which can only  be a good thing!

Overall I have been really impressed by this solid shampoo bar and I'm really glad I tried it.  It is now part of my hair care routine and I love how it gives my hair a boost of volume and also contains only natural, ethical and animal friendly ingredients.  Seanik is yet another Lush product I love!

You can buy the Seanik solid shampoo bar from Lush for £5.99

What do you think of Seanik? Would you use a solid shampoo?

Home Wish List // Feat. Laura Ashley / Marks and Spencer / Next

Home Wish List

Back in 2012 my boyfriend and I bought our first home together.  As it was a new build we had a completely blank canvas to work with and it was really fun to create different looks for each room.  At the time we wanted to keep things neutral so in the future when we fancied a change we could easily mix things up by introducing different accessories.  The time has come (quicker than I thought if I'm honest) where we fancy a bit of a change so I'm on the look out for some home accessories to change the look and feel of some of the rooms.  Here are my picks:

Laura Ashley Lemington Polka Dot Cotton Throw // £55 // Link

We recently transformed our spare room from a second bedroom that didn't get used much into a second lounge which now gets used every day.  In order to do this we swapped the double bed for a sofa bed so people can still stay if they need to but it has really opened up the space.  Originally we wanted to get a duck egg blue sofa bed but we found an offer on a more neutral one that was too good to refuse so we bought it with the intention to eventually buy a throw and some cushions to add a little colour.  I'm really into polka dots so love this one from Laura Ashley!

Laura Ashley Calissa Scented Hearts // £12.00 // Link

If I'm honest I have no idea where I will put these scented hearts but they are just so cute I had to include them on my wish list.  I love the pretty colours and the fact that they are scented too.  They would make a lovely feature in one of the bedrooms, maybe hanging on the wardrobe doors or even on some little hooks on the wall.

Next Luxe Faux Fur Cushion // £18.00 // Link

I'm a little obsessed with cushions which means that I'm one of those people that love the sofa and bed to be piled high with different colours and textures.  I haven't got any faux fur ones and this one looks so snuggly and cosy.  I'm thinking of maybe combining it with the throw and some others but I will have to see them together to get an idea of what they are really like.

Next Teal Fossil Embroided Cushion // £14 //  Link

Continuing with my love for cushions this one from Next is another I really like.   The colours are really pretty and I love the delicate design covering them. I think they would look really great on a sofa that has a pretty neutral background or maybe even on the bed. Next is amazing for homeware products, it's actually one of my favourite places to shop because the quality is good and the prices are very reasonable.

Marks and Spencer Small Wicker Heart // £19.50 // Link

I love anything with hearts and this wicker one from Marks and Spencer is adorable.  Our hallway is still looking s bit sparce as we haven't decorated the walls with photo's as we intended so a lovely addition will be this cute heart.  I love that it is 3D so will add a little dimension and will break up the photo's nicely.

What do you think of my picks?

THINGS I WISH I'D KNOWN ABOUT BLOGGING - PART 2

Things I Wish I'd Known About Blogging

Hello Beauties! I've been blogging for 13 months now and I have learnt a huge amount along the way. It has definitely been a steep learning curve but I've loved every minute of it. Back in October I wrote a blog post named 'Things I wish I'd Known About Blogging' which was part 1 of this mini series which you can read here.  This post marks the next chapter and I hope you find it useful.

Google Analytics

When I first started blogging I thought the obvious place to find out how many people visited my blog, their locations amd my most popular pages would be to use the 'stats' tab in Blogger.  In hindsight, however, I have discovered Google Analytics is the place to be as the statistics are much more reliable and thorough.  Google Analytics is easy to set up as you simply paste tracker code onto your blog so it can log every visit and it is extremely interesting to review.

Readers & Followers

When you first start blogging it is easy to focus on the amount of readers and followers you have or haven't got and compare yourself to others.  The truth is, the beauty and fashion community is so lovely it really doesn't matter how many you have as you are treated just the same. Everyone is very friendly and whether you are taking part in a Twitter chat, commenting on other people's blog's or publishing your own posts for your readers you are part of this wonderful community and will make some great friends.. whether you 1 follower or 1000.

Editing Photo's

I'm lucky enough to have some great editing software from when I was younger playing around with graphic design.  I've been interested in websites from about 14 years old and I taught myself HTML, CSS and graphic design so I could create my own website and have it looking exactly how I want.  I still love dabbling in that from time to time and have created a couple of my blog layouts but due to my job I do find it hard to dedicate the time to re-design it very often.

Despite having this great software, I still sometimes use the free online tools to edit my blog photo's when wanting to add a header or simple text onto a picture.  They are super easy to use and you can quickly achieve a really nice looking header for blog posts with very little effort.  These tools can also be used to enhance photo's you have in your post but I would suggest doing the absolutely bare minimum as I always think it's better to have the products in your pictures looking as natural as possible. The free online tools you can use are Pic Monkey and iPiccy.

Events and Meet Ups

When I first started blogging I didn't even know it was possible to be invited to product launches or be sent products to review  but after reading more blogs and through chats and Twitter I realised this whole other world existed and it happened very often.

Meet ups in particular are a brilliant way to meet new bloggers and if your're shy is the perfect way to make new friends.  The meet ups are almost always hosted by a blogger and you can often hear about new meet-ups going on all around the country through Twitter.

From my experience I have found events are promoted in three ways.  Firstly, I have been contacted directly by companies to attend, secondly I've seen events pop up on Twitter (rare, but it does happen) and lastly my lovely blogging friends have been able to have a plus one so I have invited me. It is amazing to go to an event and speak first hand with people who are passionate about their products and try them.  You often see people you know there too so it's great to catch up with people.

Ad Sense

Ad Sense is another function available through Google which as the name suggests, allows you to have advertisements on your blog.  This isn't something I added until recently but it is super simple to set up if you want it on your blog.  It allows you to make a tiny amount of money per click but there are thresholds you have to reach before you actually benefit in any way so it may not be something everyone is interested in.

There are many companies offering something similar and I have often been contacted by them but the difference with Ad Sense is that it is connected to Google which I like because it is the same location as other things I use (e.g Google Analytics), and the advertisements aren't too in your face so hopefully they don't annoy my readers

RE-DISCOVERED PRODUCTS

Empties Empties Empties

Although the weather is pretty awful here in the UK, especially for those poor people where there has been flooding over the past couple of weeks there has been the odd blue sky and spot of sunshine where I live.  This combined with rooting around in my make-up collection has inspired today's post featuring products that I recently re-discovered. I love it when that happens because in a strange way it feels like you've just purchased them and they are brand new again. Here are the re-discovered products I have been loving:

Maybelline The Falsies // Link

When I first bought this mascara last year it was because I gave into the hype around it. The Falsies seemed to pop up on every blog and You Tube channel I followed so I eventually gave in and bought it.  If I'm honest when I first got it I wasn't a fan at all.  I found it to be very thick and clumpy and after just a few uses it ended up in the bottom of my make-up drawer to be completely forgotten about until the last month.  I'm not sure what made me try it again but this time when using it I decided to scrape the excess product off before using it and it turns out when you do this, The Falsies is amazing! It separates my lashes beautifully, my eyes look defined, my lashes full and lengthened and overall I've been very impressed.  It's a shame to have to scrape the product off first but this isn't something new to me as I also have to do this with my YSL Shocking Mascara.  I never thought I'd say it but I'm converted and love this mascara, I'm so glad I gave it a second chance.

Barry M Gelly Nail Paints // Link

I love Barry M nail polishes but as I mostly have only bright colours suitable for Spring and Summer they have been a little un-loved over the past few months.  This all changed a few weeks ago when I began mixing up my nail polishes as I was getting a little bored of my dark shades and berry tones.  My favourite of all the polishes in the Barry M range are the gel polishes and it's so nice to be using them again, even if it is a little early for these shades!

Soap and Glory Solar Powder // Link

Since discovering Nars Laguna bronzer all the others in my collection haven't really been looked at until this month when I re-discovered Soap and Glory Solar Powder looking a bit sorry for itself in my make-up drawer.  After a bit of a tidy up it looked as good as new and I've been really enjoying using it again as it makes a change to Laguna.  Solar Powder is a very pretty, wearable shade which gives the skin a natural glow so it's perfect for me to use with my pasty complexion at the moment.

L'Oreal Glam Shine Lip Glosses // Link

When I was younger I used to wear lip glosses non-stop.  There was never a day that went past without me constantly topping it up and being on the hunt for a new one but as I've got older and delved into the world of lip crayons, stains and lipsticks they haven't had much of a look in.   After re-organising my make-up collection a few weeks ago, however, I found my L'Oreal Glam Shine lip glosses and remembered how lovely they are.  Since, I have been wearing them every day either on their own or over the top of my lipsticks and it's been really nice to have an added sheen to my lips and re-discover these pretty products.  The wonderful thing about these glosses is the formula because they are not sticky in the slightest so they are very comfortable to wear.. I also love the heart shaped applicator as you get precise yet quick application.

Dior Addict Lip Gloss

The first thing that attracted me to the Dior lip glosses is the beautiful packaging.  They look stunning sitting in the displays with the transparent and silver casings containing sparkly product waiting to be used.  Again, this is a lip gloss which has a lovely formula because it isn't sticky so it is comfortable to wear and I wore it a lot over the Summer last year when I first bought it.  In the lead up to Spring I can imagine I will also get a lot of use out of it... It's too pretty to stay in the drawer!

What do you think of my picks? What are your re-discovered products?

TAG: THE BLOGGER MADE ME BUY IT

The Blogger Made Me Buy It Tag

Hello Beauties! I was recently tagged by the lovely Chloe at Chloe's Way to take part in the 'The Blogger Made Me Do It Tag'.  I've seen this post doing the rounds a lot lately and it looks like a really fun one so I am glad to be taking part and sharing it with you. I have also tagged a few fellow bloggers at the bottom, so take a peak and see if you're there. I'd love to read your answers so if you do this tag please leave a comment below with your link so I can take a look.. let's get started!

1 // Who are your most influential bloggers? Who are the ones that you really rely on for reviews and swatches?

I read lots of blogs but the most influential ones are probably The Sunday Girl and Fleur de Force.  If I read a review here I may not always look at more before buying a product as I really trust what they say and their pictures of the products and swatches are always accurate. I particularly like Fleur's blog and You Tube as we have similar complexions, skin and hair types (other than the colour) so I find if it suits her it will most likely suit me too.

2 // Do you buy a product solely as a result from one review from your favourite bloggers, or do you look for more reviews from others?

Oops, I should have re-read the questions before writing my answers as I seemed to have covered this in my first answer.  If the two bloggers above haven't reviewed a product I am interested in then I will definitely look at other blogs for their reviews but how many really depends on the product.  If it is an expensive or hyped about product I tend to look at more reviews because I feel it is more important to get lots of people's opinions before making a decision on whether to buy or not.

3 // What is your most favourite item that you have ever bought as a consequence of blogs?

This question is surprisingly easy for me to answer and those of you who know me well won't be shocked by my answer either.  I discovered my all time favourite foundation, Chanel Vital Lumiere Aqua through blogging and I absolutely love it! This foundation is better than any other I have tried because it's low coverage, lasts all day and looks very natural. Read the review here.

4/ // What is your least favourite item that you have ever bought as a consequence of blogs?

This is a tough question as luckily there aren't many products I have been disappointed in.  I guess if I was being very picky I have been a little disappointed in the Revlon Balm Stains which I bought due to the hype around them last year.  The one I have is in Crush which is a beautiful berry tone but I have a love hate relationship with it because it can look patchy and cakey if initially you apply too much or if it wears off unevenly.  Due to this, I don't use it as much as I thought I would. Read the review here. Also, the MUA lipsticks have just popped into my head.  They are a good alternative due to the low price but I find the just slide off and end up everywhere!

5 // Name 5 products you have bought recently as a result of blogs.

This question has really got me thinking because I haven't bought anything for a while....

Laura Mercier Ambre Vanille Souffle - This is incredible // Review
La Prairie Midnight Rain Perfume - Sweet, floral and delicious!
Bioderma - This is a cult product that I love // Review
The White Company Candle in Geranium - Lovely candle // Review

I give up.. I can't think of a fifth one, sorry!

6 // Have you ever given into blogger hype? If so, which hype?

I gave into the hype around the Revlon Lip butters and Maybelline The Falsies mascara and I really like both of them! For the latter it has taken me a while to make my mind up but now  it's a product I reach for most days.

7 // Have you ever avoided blogger hype? If so, which hype?

I haven't given into the current hype surrounding the Naked 3 palette and although I'm a big fan of Urban Decay I don't think I will.  The palette looks pretty but the shades look a little too pink for me so I don't think it's something I will be purchasing.. however many great reviews I keep reading!

8 // Is everything you buy based on blogger reviews or are there some items you buy without checking out a review?

The majority of things I buy are based on blogger reviews but occasionally if I see something I like, particularly if it's by a brand I trust such as Urban Decay, Chanel or Nars then I will buy it.  Other things such as clothes and home ware I always buy without reading reviews unless it is from an online shop.

I tag:

Rachel - Beauty Queen UK
Beky - Beky Lou
Holly - Holly Mixtures

Girls, if you do this tag, you don't need to use the same picture as I have at the top.... I created it as I preferred it to the original.

What do you think of this tag?

EMPTIES // WOULD I RE-PURCHASE? / FEAT CHANEL, NARS, BENEFIT ETC

Batiste Dry Shampoo and VO5 Heat Defense Spray Batiste Dry Shampoo and VO5 Heat Defense Spray Batiste Dry Shampoo and VO5 Heat Defense Spray Batiste Dry Shampoo and VO5 Heat Defense Spray Batiste Dry Shampoo and VO5 Heat Defense Spray

Hello Lovelies, how are you all? As I'm writing this blog post it looks like a beautiful Spring day outside which really makes a refreshing change from the dull grey skies and rain we haven't been getting lately.  The sky is a beautiful bright blue, the sun in shining and everything looks bright and green.  It makes me really want Summer to arrive soon so the temperature also warms up and I can start working on that tan I love so much.. I'm fed up of sporting the pasty look!

Today's blog post is all about products I have used up and isn't something that features on my blog very often.  This isn't because I don't use up products but instead because I am awful and remembering to save them when I have! This time around I managed to though, so without further ado let me introduce the products I have recently used up and my thoughts on each of them.

Chanel Vital Lumiere Aqua // Review // Link

I have used up not one but two of these foundations over the past few months and this is a product I would definitely purchase over and over again.  Vital Lumiere Aqua is my all time favourite foundation because it provides light coverage, blends well, is long lasting and looks very natural.  The bottles are also really misleading because they last a lot longer than you think.  I've re-purchased this twice when I thought I was nearing the bottle but in fact there were many more applications left in it which is good because this is an expensive product at £32.00

Nars Laguna Bronzer // Review // Link

It was a sad day when I hit pan on Nars Laguna and not long after I had used up the whole product.  This is most definitely my favourite bronzer at the moment and although it is expensive at £26.00 I would definitely re-purchase it (in fact I already have!).  Laguna is a beautiful easy to wear shade whether you are pale or have a deeper olive complexion and is blends beautifully onto the skin.  I love that this bronzer gives a really natural glow to the skin and as the powder is very fine and light it doesn't ever look cakey or streaky. Nars Laguna is well known in the world of beauty and is often called a cult product which I definitely think it deserves.

Benefit Erase Paste // Review // Link

Benefit is a make-up brand a really love and the first ever product I got from there was the Benefit Erase Paste.  One of my colleagues at work kindly bought me this is a gift and I've been hooked ever since.  This tiny pot contains a thick, creamy concealer that works perfectly to cover blemishes as well as under eye circles and I would definitely re-purchase it.  Surprisingly this little pot has lasted me at least a year if not longer so even though it may been seen as a little pricey at £19.50 it has lasted me an awful long time! Erase Paste is also one of those concealers that applies beautifully whether you use your fingers or a brush but I prefer the latter as it is more hygienic.

Benefit Porefessional // Review // Link

Porefessional is not only a primer which is great for making your skin tone look more even but at looks makes your make-up last longer and reduce the size of pores.  The primer unlike so many others on the market is nude rather than a transparent gel and it can also be worn over foundation as well as under it.  I've seen people give mixed reviews of Porefessional so if you want to try it I would definitely suggest getting a sample size first but personally I love it as it works very well with my combination skin and Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. I've already re-purchased this product in the biggest size available!

Clinque Super Defense Moisturiser // Review // Link

When I first purchased this Clinique moisturiser I really loved it and have gone through two pots but recently I noticed my face felt sore or irritated after using it.  I've felt this a little in the past on rare occasions but I didn't realise it was this moisturiser until it got much worse recently so I've had to stop using it. I'm almost at the end of my last pot and the small bit I will give to my mum to try  but needless to say due to the allergic reaction I seem to be having when I use this product I will not be repurchasing it. I'm disappointed because it hydrated my skin really well.

VO5 Heat Defense Spray // Review // Link

I have long naturally curly hair which I often use heat on to style.  Almost on a daily basis I either use my straightners or curling tongs so my poor hair has to ensure an awful lot so it's really important that I regulary use a good heat defense spray to try and keep it in the best condition possible.  A product I have used for years and keep going back to is the VO5 Heat Defense Spray because it smells good, lasts a long time, sprays evening overly my hair and most importantly protects my hair without changing it's texture.  I will definitely re-purchase this product but I've been using it for a long time now without trying any others so I am tempted to see what else the market has to offer.

Batiste Dry Shampoo // Review // Link

I've been using Batiste dry shampoo for years and my favourite in the huge range they offer is Tropical because the scent is refreshing and reminds me of holidays.  In the past I always would have said I would re-purchase this product without a second thought but the last canister I bought which was especially for brunette hair was faulty so I couldn't use it. I tried to get a refund but  Superdrug where I bought the product were extremely un-helpful as were Batiste themselves so unfortunately that experience has put me off re-purchasing.  I'm not going to say I will never go back to using this dry shampoo but for the time being I'm definitely going to try out some other brands. Are there any you would recommend?

What do you think of these products? Do you want to see more posts like this?

FOTD // Casual Saturday Shopping Trip // feat MAC, Urban Decay, Dior, Chanel, YSL, L'Oreal, Maybelline

Face of the Day

Hello Lovelies! The second post of the day is a FOTD (face of the day) which was taken today in the car enroute to the shops.  This wasn't just any shopping trip though, this was to look for a fascinator to wear to my friends wedding next week.  I know I've left it really late but that's because I couldn't decide on what dress I was going to wear. I bought a beautiful one in the Summer because I feared at this time of wear they may not be anything suitable but when I tried it on recently I wasn't entirely happy with it.  I'm not sure why, I can't pin point any particular thing, I guess it just didn't really have that 'wow' factor so during the week I was on the hunt for a replacement.  Thankfully, I found a stunning dress in Coast that I feel much more comfortable in and now I have a pretty fascinator to go with it too.

Anyway, back to today's post.  I just wanted a really natural, no fuss makeup look today and even though I got up in plenty of time it all seemed to have vanished and I was rushing around trying desperately to get ready in time.  Here are the products I used:

Primer - Benefit Porefessional // Review
Foundation - Chanel Vital Lumiere Aqua // Review
Concealer - Benefit Erase Paste // Review
Powder - MAC Mineralise Skin Finish Natural in Medium Plus // Review
Highlighter - MAC Soft and Gentle // Review

Please note, some of the posts I have linked above are old so apologies the photo's are not as good quality.

My Valentines Day

Valentines Day
Valentines Gifts

Hello Beauties! There will be a couple of blog posts going live today and in the first one I wanted to share my Valentines Day with you all.  This is ironically one of those holiday's that people either love or hate and I'm someone who loves it.  I've been with my boyfriend for nine years and we have always celebrated Valentines together. We usually go out for a meal and talk about our past Valentines dates and reminisce about the past few years which is always lovely to do because it brings back lots of lovely memories. Of course, we don't only do this on Valentines but I think it will always be something we celebrate however big or small.

This year we decided to give each other small token gifts rather than spending lots on 'lovey dovey' presents as after being together for so long you can imagine we've given each other quite a few of those. In past to mix things up a little we've given each other gifts that aren't related to Valentines so something like clothes but this year we decided to go for something a little more low key.

When I woke up on Valentines morning waiting for me on the breakfast bar were two gorgeous bouquets of flowers.  One was half a dozen red roses and the other a mixture of beautiful pink and red flowers as my boyfriend had remembered me mentioning wanting more flowers around the house a few weeks before.  There was also a card with some really lovely words he had written inside which mean a huge amount to me.

The gifts I gave my boyfriend were a selection of heart themed sweets and chocolates as he has a very sweet tooth so naturally loves anything like this and also I will be treating him to an Indian tonight.  As always we broke the rule of 'keep things low key' and bought each other extra gifts.  At every celebration we set some kind of budget but it always seems to go out of the window! I bought him a selection of coffee's for his new Nespresso machine and he bought me a gorgeous clutch handbag I've had my eye on!

The surprises weren't over there, though.  rather than going out for dinner this time he cooked an amazing three course meal from scratch which was perfect because so much thought and love and been put into it.  We both had to work on Valentines during the day but we had our meal in the evening to look forward to together and I must say I was super impressed! Simon cooked up a storm in the kitchen which included:

The Starter: pan seared scallops with pancetta a pea puree
The Main: Duck with creamy mash and seasonal vegetables
The Desert: Whipped Lemon Mousse with a crunchy biscuit base

The meal was absolutely delicious and I loved all of it!

As well as the lovely gifts and meal from my boyfriend, my dad also bought me a card and beautiful bouquet of red roses which I have combined in the vase with the others I received Needless to say  I was spoilt rotten this Valentines day! <3

How did you spend your Valentines Day?
