Review | Nars Anita Lipstick

Nars Anita Lipstick
Nars Anita Lipstick
Nars Anita Lipstick
Nars Anita Lipstick

Nars is without doubt one of my favourite brands when it comes to makeup because although their products are high end so a little on the pricey side they are a brilliant quality and a large selection is available.

Nars Anita is part of the Audacious collection and is a beautiful rich nude shade. It is deep pink lipstick that is the darkest nude shade I have in my collection but it's still very wearable. Depending on the light it can look a little more orange toned like in the photo's above but most of the time it leans more on the pink side. When combined with a simple neutral eye for every day wear this lipstick works perfectly and it has quickly become one of my 'go to' shades.

When I purchased Anita I was on the look out for a every day pink shade that wasn't as pale as the others in my collection such as MAC Hue and Please Me but nothing that was too dark either. Anita is just perfect and I can imagine it suiting a lot of different skin tones.

The formula of Anita is just beautiful. The texture is creamy like butter, smooth and hydrating so it is very comfortable to wear but is also pretty long lasting too.  I just love it. For the best results I apply it first with a small lip brush to get a precise line and I put one more layer of the top directly from the lipstick. This gives me an even, flawless finish.

The packaging is also great. The jet black casing looks sophisticated and the magnet lid works well plus is a cool gimmick. The logo is imprinted in the side of the lipstick which I always like.

If you want to buy Anita by Nars it is available on their website for £24.00

Review | My NARS Blush Collection

My NARS Blush Collection
My NARS Blush Collection

NARS is an amazing makeup brand, in fact it is one of my favourites and if I had to pick just one make up brand to use this would probably be it. Their products are brilliant quality and so far I've been really lucky and loved everything I have tried.

Today I want to share my blush collection with you. It's not particularly big but these are all 'go to' shades that I wear on a regular basis and have done for the past couple of years.

My NARS Blush Collection: Sin

This is a beautiful plum blush that has a subtle gold shimmer running through it and is one of the most popular shades sold. It is the perfect blush to wear in Autumn and Winter and goes brilliantly with berry lips and for me it makes a real change to your typical pinks and peaches.

In the pan Sin doesn't look like anything special to most people but that's what I love most about it. It's not until you apply it you realise how beautiful it is. The shade gives you a natural flush and warms the skin so it is very flattering and although it is well pigmented it is easy to work with if you are careful with how much the brush picks up. The soft texture isn't as dry as some other powder blushes in my collection such as Benefit but it isn't super creamy either, not that it matters because it blends beautifully and easily stays in place all day.

Sin is a blush that can be easily used every day and it looks great in the evening with a dark lip and smokey eye too. It's very versatile and is a shade I think deserves more hype than it gets.

My NARS Blush Collection: Amour

Amour is a pretty rosy pink shade that has a subtle shimmer through it which gives my cheeks a healthy glow. It is highly pigmented so needs to be used with caution so you don't end up looking like a clown but the end result is lovely. It makes my cheeks look flushed and looks gorgeous with a simple nude lip during Spring and Summer although is is a shade that can easily be worn all year round.

The texture of Amour is the same as Sin so it is a little on the dry side but again is very blendable.  It needs more attention than Sin but is still a shade I find pretty easy to work with and is great for every day as it's long lasting.

Personally I think this shade wouldn't be suitable for those with a very pale skin tone.

My NARS Blush Collection: Deep Throat

Deep Throat is the first Nars blush I bought and is my most worn as it's such an easy to wear shade. It is paler than Amour, being slightly more peachy toned and has a gold shimmer running through it which gives my cheeks a healthy glow.

The pigmentation is very good so just one swipe with my brush is plenty to cover and blend onto both cheeks and again it stays in place all day without moving. The shade is also great because it goes with a large variety of makeup looks so I can easily reach for this blush every day if I want to.

I hope you enjoyed this post about my NARS blush collection. It is an expensive brand but I think the products are such a good quality it really is worth it. They also seem to be never ending. I use mine regularly it looks like I've barely touched them!

If you want to see some similar posts like this let me know, I had fun putting this one together.

Review | My Favourite Brands Part 1

My Favourite Brands Part 1

Hello Beauties! Today's blog post is the start of a mini series where I will share my favourite brands with you. I'm going to give you an insight into my 'go to' brands for certain products and why I go back to them time and time again as well as recent discoveries I love.

This series will include numerous posts so if you want to suggest a specific area please feel free to leave a comment below to request it. I will be talking about a broad range of areas from beauty to fashion to jewellery and candles :)

In no particular order, let's get started!

Make-up Brushes

The first area I am looking at are makeup brushes where I definitely have some favourite brands.

First is Sigma who are top of my list because they offer a huge range of brushes at reasonable prices. The bristles are soft and good quality, the handles comfortable to hold and they come up well after every wash. When I first ordered my Sigma brushes I got them sent over from the US as at that time it worked out much cheaper, however, the delivery costs have now increased so in the future I will order from a UK site such as Beauty Chamber. My favourite Sigma Brush is the F80 which is a flat kabuki and perfect for blending in foundation for a flawless look.

Next on my list are MAC brushes, in particular their eye makeup brushes such as the 217 which is brilliant for blending eyeshadow. Again, the range of brushes is good but I find the quality has deteriorated a little which means some of my brushes, especially my blush one sheds which is a little annoying. Even so, MAC is a well respected brand for brushes and you'll definitely find what you need here.

Last of all are Real Techniques brushes which are a really great drug store alternative to the above. Priced well, these brushes are worth the price tag and are soft so don't irritate my skin. They also recover from cleaning well. The Real Techniques range of brushes is slowly increasing but I'd definitely watch out for the naming conventions on them as I find I often use them for something completely different than they are intended. For example, I use the blush brush for powder as it is large.

Brush Cleaner

This moves on nicely to my next topic, brush cleaner. I haven't tried a lot of different brush cleaners but out of the ones I have there are two that stand out. Firstly, the MAC brush cleaner which leaves my brushes feeling soft and looking as good as new and secondly simple baby shampoo. I tend to use the latter more now as it is much more economical although my brushes do tend to take a little longer to dry.

Bath Products

Next on my list are bath products and there are two stand out brands for me here. The first will be obvious to anyone who follows my blog or Twitter as it is Lush. If you've never been to Lush before because you have been put off the intense smell as you walk up to the shop I would definitely recommend venturing in and buying a couple of products to try. Once they are in a different environment so you can smell them individually they are gorgeous and I don't think you'l be disappointed.

I love Lush because the range of products is huge and they are fun and innovative. When we come up to each season I always look forward to seeing what new products they have on offer and if any of my favourite's are making a re-appearance. I'm yet to find a product I have been disappointed in.

My favourite Lush products include the bath bombs, shower gels, shampoo bars, bubble bars and soaps.

Another favourite brand of mine for bath products are Laura Mercier as their bath melt is simply divine. It's such a luxurious product I use it with moderation but the whole bathroom is filled with a delicious aroma that lingers on my skin and makes it soft and smooth. My favourite scents are Ambre Vanille and Creme Brule.. yum!

Foundation

I'm going to break down the makeup brands I like into categories as I tend to go to different brands depending on the product. First up are foundations where there are three stand out brands for me, two high end and one drug store.

When it comes to foundation I've never had a preference over high end or drug store but over the years as I've tried more products I guess I've leaned more towards high end simply because those are the products that have worked best with my skin type which is combination - normal.

The foundation I have been using for most of this year has been Nars Sheer Glow. The price tag is high but it blends beautifully over my skin and gives it a healthy yet natural glow which I love. The shade match is perfect and no matter what tool I use the end result is also great. This is my current favourite foundation.

Next is Chanel who have a lot of gorgeous products, one of my favourite's being the foundations. The Vitalumiere Aqua foundation was a favourite of mine for years until I discovered Nars but is very high quality and still a staple in my collection. The formula is very light weight and doesn't make my skin break out. I love it.

Last but not least is the drug store brand Rimmel. When it comes to foundations Rimmel have got it right as they offer a reasonable range of shades with a high quality formulation that isn't too thick or thin. It isn't cakey and is reasonably long lasting so if I'm looking for a foundation that isn't too pricey Rimmel is the place I go. My favourite is Match Perfection.

I hope you liked today post and having a sneaky peak at my favourite brands. I have tried to mix up the topics to make each post a little more interesting and go into some detail so you know why I have chosen each of them. Watch this space for part 2 in the series.

What did you think of part 1 of my favourite brands? What are some of your favourites?

FOTD | Minimal Every Day Make-up

Minimal Everyday Makeup

Hello Beauties, How are you all? I recently took this snap and posted it online where I got several comments about the make-up I was wearing so I thought I'd write a blog post about it. When this was taken I was on my way to the mall for a quick shopping trip as I needed a few last minute things before a family wedding I was going to the following weekend and also needed to get my eyebrows threaded. I was feeling a little under the weather so I didn't want to to wear much make-up so went for a very minimalist look using the below products.

Face

After using my Origins Make a Difference moisturiser I applied a small amount of Nars Sheer Glow Foundation using my all time favourite brush, the Sigma F80 which is a flat top Kabuki.  This blends the product effortlessly into the skin and leaves a flawless finish and a natural healthy glow.

Following this, I added a hint of colour to my cheeks using MAC Mocha powder blush which is a really subtle pink. I like using this blush because it gives a pretty hint of colour without being too over the top, it blends well and is easy to use as it isn't overly pigmented.

As I was having a good skin day I didn't need any concealer and also didn't apply any more powder products such as bronzer or setting powder as I wanted to maintain the glow from the foundation.

Eyes and Lips

Moving onto eyes and lips, I added a little Urban Decay Priming Potion to my lids followed by MAC Brule eyeshadow, a almost skin colour beige as I wanted a very neutral look. The one bad thing about having your eyebrows threaded is that it plays havoc with eye make-up because you have to often pull your skin tight while they do it so I've learnt the hard way not to wear anything too heavy.

I decided to skip eyeliner due to the reasons above and jump straight to a a very thin layer of Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara. I put on so little so people may think it's not worth it but it added a tiny bit of definition to my already long lashes and helped open up my eyes a little.

Last but not least I put on a sweep of one of my most used lipsticks. YSL Rouge Volupte in Number 8, a pretty baby pink that goes with any make-up look.

Wish List | Beauty Wish List

Beauty Wish List

Benefit Hoola Bronzer | Link | £23.50

Initially, when I was looking for a high end bronzer it was a hard decision between Nars Laguna and Benefit Hoola. At the time I chose Nars because I had never tried any of their products before and I was intrigued to find out what they were like but now I have used 3-4 pans I fancy a change and would love to try Benefit Hoola. I will definitely go back to Laguna at some point as it is a beautiful product and my 'holy grail' bronzer but I think it may be time for a change.

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation | Link | £31.00

I've been wanting to try Nars Sheer Glow for ages but I've been a little put off because I love Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua so much. Although I do use other foundations from time to time it's the one I always go back to because nothing else seems to compare.

Nars Sheer Glow has had brilliant reviews and I think it will work well with my combination skin. It also gives the skin a gorgeous glow hence the name rather than a matte finish which is exactly what I look for in a foundation. Before buying the full size I definitely want to try a sample first though because I only like very light foundations and I'm not too sure what the consistency of this one is.

Too Faced Chocolate Eyeshadow Palette | Link | £45.00

I've never tried any products by Too Faced before but every time I see a blog post on one or go to one of the counters I'm struck by how beautiful they are. Their blushes look gorgeous and I've been tempted many times by them but most recently I have been lusting after the Chocolate eyeshadow palette which contains some really pretty neutral shades.

Smash Box Full Exposure Eyeshadow Palette | Link | £38.00

I love Smash Box products.  They are brilliant value for money, easily available and I'm yet to find one I haven't liked. I've had my eye on the Full Exposure Eyeshadow Palette since it was released because it looks like the perfect collection shades for me. I'm definitely a neutrals girls and by the look of this palette I would wear every one of these shades.. it looks so pretty!

Nanshy Face Brush Set | Link | £34.95

Despite being a beauty blogger my brush collection isn't particularly large and I'm finding that I really need some more so I can rotate them rather than having to find time to deep clean them quite so often.

I have the Nanshy eye brush set which I love and I would love to add the face brush set to my collection too. They are exactly what I am looking for! My all time favourite foundation brush is the Sigma F80 Flat Kabuki and it looks like Nanshy sell a very similar one which I really want to try.

Elemis Pro Radiance Cream Cleanser | Link | £29.00

I have never actually tried any products by Elemis before (shock horror) but I keep hearing so many good things about them I would love to give them a try. I'm not too sure what products in particular but maybe this Radiance Cream Cleanser as it sounds lovely.

Origins GingZing Moisturiser | Link | £23.00

I'm nearing the end of my REN moisturiser and I'm not sure whether to re-purchase it or try something I little different. It is working very well with my skin type so the liklihood of me changing isn't very big as I don't like to mix up my skin care routine very often but I'm very tempted to try the Origins GinZing moisturiser.

I've heard so many good things about this moisturiser and I love the Drink It Up Face Mask so I'm intrigued by it.

What do you think of my beauty wish list? Have you tried any of these products?

6 Must Have High End Spring Make Up Products

6 Spring Make-up PicksSpring has definitely sprung, the leaves are green, the blossom is a flurry of white and pink on trees and the flowers are beginning to bloom.  This was the inspiration for today's post, make-up that is perfect for Spring time.  I've been using these products more and more over the last weeks and each and every one of them is beautiful.  For those of you that prefer to use high street products rather than high end keep an eye out for a similar post that will make an appearance over the next couple of weeks.

#1 YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick in No.8
YSL Lipstick
I absolutely love YSL lipsticks because they are so soft and creamy. They never leave my lips feeling dry and uncomfortable and although they aren't particularly long lasting they never smudge or look patchy.
My most worn YSL lipstick is definitely no.8Fetish Pink in the Rouge Volupte Shine range which can definitely be described as the perfect nude or 'your lips but better' shade.  This lipstick gives me a gorgeous pop of colour which isn't too subtle but at the same time isn't too overpowering and the lipstick goes with every make-up look I create.

I can't talk about a YSL lipstick without mentioning the stunning packaging. The gold case and intricate detailing exposing a flash of the lipstick colour that hides within is beautiful and is definitely the best I've seen on the market.

Priced at £24.50 the YSL lipsticks are very expensive but I absolutely love them. Read my review here.

#2 Nars Alhambra Eyeshadow Duo
Nars Alhambra Eyeshadow
Next is this beautiful eyshadow duo from Nars called Alhambra.  The shades are perfect for when you want to brighten up your eyes and wear very light natural make-up for an every day look. Both have a pretty shimmer and the pink champagne and subtle gold look perfect all over the lid on their own or with a darker shade added into the crease for a little more depth.

The formula is soft and creamy meaning they blend very well and the staying power is pretty good when combined with a primer such as the Urban Decay Priming Potion.  Team this with mascara and a little eyeliner (if you wish) and you're good to go!

You can pick up this eyeshadow duo for £25.00. Read my review here.

#3 MAC Soft and Gentle Highlighter
MAC Soft and Gentle HIghlighter
MAC Soft and Gentle highlighter is a popular and well loved product which is perfect to use in spring. I love teaming it with a pretty pink natural blush to give my cheek bones an extra healthy glow as well as my brow bones. This is one of those products that everyone notices when you wear it and it really finishes off a make-up look.

I will be wearing Soft and Gentle almost every day throughout the Spring and Summer months!

You can buy MAC Soft and Gentle for £22.00 and read my review here.

#4 Nars Laguna Bronzer
NARS Laguna Bronzer
Everyone has their Holy Grail bronzer and when I was first looking for one it was a toss up between Nars Laguna and Benefit's Hoola.  Having never tried anything from Nars before I opted for Laguna so I could try something completely new and I haven't looked back since.

Nars Laguna may look a little scary in the pan for some people but it is a bronzer that can easily be worn by people with different skin tones because it doesn't come out as dark as it looks. The creamy texture blends beautifully into the skin so it doesn't look streaky or cakey so it's perfect to use if you have a pale complexion like me.

This is now the second Nars Laguna I've had and sadly I hit pan a couple of days ago.. I will definitely be re-purchasing it as I will be using this a huge amount over Spring and Summer!

You can buy Nars Laguna for £26.00. Read my review here.

#5 Chanel Inspiration Cream Blush
Dior Inspiration Cream Blush
The most recent make-up product to find it's way into my collection is this stunning cream blush by Chanel.  In the past I haven't been drawn to cream products that much but lately they have been appealing to me more and more so whether it's a cream eyeshadow or blush it has caught my eye.

This particular blush is called 'Inspiration'  and is perfect for people who have a cool complexion. The pretty pink shade gives my cheeks the perfect pop of colour without being too in your face and since buying it I have worn it every day.

The formulation is soft and creamy but not as wet as some other cream blushers I have used but it still blends perfectly onto my skin and gives the perfect finish.

You can buy this blusher for £28.00. If you want to read a full review take a look at yesterday's post.

#6 Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation
Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua

Last but not least on my Spring must haves is the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation because the formula is very light so it is perfect to wear when the weather is getting a little warmer and you don't want to wear anything heavy. This is a great alternative to a BB cream and is my all time favourite foundation.

I'm not going to talk too much about it because this product has popped up in a number of posts and I don't want to bore those who have already read about it before so if you want to find out more have a look at this post.

You can buy Chanel Vitalumiere for £33.00 and read the review here.

EMPTIES // WOULD I RE-PURCHASE? / FEAT CHANEL, NARS, BENEFIT ETC

Batiste Dry Shampoo and VO5 Heat Defense Spray Batiste Dry Shampoo and VO5 Heat Defense Spray Batiste Dry Shampoo and VO5 Heat Defense Spray Batiste Dry Shampoo and VO5 Heat Defense Spray Batiste Dry Shampoo and VO5 Heat Defense Spray

Hello Lovelies, how are you all? As I'm writing this blog post it looks like a beautiful Spring day outside which really makes a refreshing change from the dull grey skies and rain we haven't been getting lately.  The sky is a beautiful bright blue, the sun in shining and everything looks bright and green.  It makes me really want Summer to arrive soon so the temperature also warms up and I can start working on that tan I love so much.. I'm fed up of sporting the pasty look!

Today's blog post is all about products I have used up and isn't something that features on my blog very often.  This isn't because I don't use up products but instead because I am awful and remembering to save them when I have! This time around I managed to though, so without further ado let me introduce the products I have recently used up and my thoughts on each of them.

Chanel Vital Lumiere Aqua // Review // Link

I have used up not one but two of these foundations over the past few months and this is a product I would definitely purchase over and over again.  Vital Lumiere Aqua is my all time favourite foundation because it provides light coverage, blends well, is long lasting and looks very natural.  The bottles are also really misleading because they last a lot longer than you think.  I've re-purchased this twice when I thought I was nearing the bottle but in fact there were many more applications left in it which is good because this is an expensive product at £32.00

Nars Laguna Bronzer // Review // Link

It was a sad day when I hit pan on Nars Laguna and not long after I had used up the whole product.  This is most definitely my favourite bronzer at the moment and although it is expensive at £26.00 I would definitely re-purchase it (in fact I already have!).  Laguna is a beautiful easy to wear shade whether you are pale or have a deeper olive complexion and is blends beautifully onto the skin.  I love that this bronzer gives a really natural glow to the skin and as the powder is very fine and light it doesn't ever look cakey or streaky. Nars Laguna is well known in the world of beauty and is often called a cult product which I definitely think it deserves.

Benefit Erase Paste // Review // Link

Benefit is a make-up brand a really love and the first ever product I got from there was the Benefit Erase Paste.  One of my colleagues at work kindly bought me this is a gift and I've been hooked ever since.  This tiny pot contains a thick, creamy concealer that works perfectly to cover blemishes as well as under eye circles and I would definitely re-purchase it.  Surprisingly this little pot has lasted me at least a year if not longer so even though it may been seen as a little pricey at £19.50 it has lasted me an awful long time! Erase Paste is also one of those concealers that applies beautifully whether you use your fingers or a brush but I prefer the latter as it is more hygienic.

Benefit Porefessional // Review // Link

Porefessional is not only a primer which is great for making your skin tone look more even but at looks makes your make-up last longer and reduce the size of pores.  The primer unlike so many others on the market is nude rather than a transparent gel and it can also be worn over foundation as well as under it.  I've seen people give mixed reviews of Porefessional so if you want to try it I would definitely suggest getting a sample size first but personally I love it as it works very well with my combination skin and Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. I've already re-purchased this product in the biggest size available!

Clinque Super Defense Moisturiser // Review // Link

When I first purchased this Clinique moisturiser I really loved it and have gone through two pots but recently I noticed my face felt sore or irritated after using it.  I've felt this a little in the past on rare occasions but I didn't realise it was this moisturiser until it got much worse recently so I've had to stop using it. I'm almost at the end of my last pot and the small bit I will give to my mum to try  but needless to say due to the allergic reaction I seem to be having when I use this product I will not be repurchasing it. I'm disappointed because it hydrated my skin really well.

VO5 Heat Defense Spray // Review // Link

I have long naturally curly hair which I often use heat on to style.  Almost on a daily basis I either use my straightners or curling tongs so my poor hair has to ensure an awful lot so it's really important that I regulary use a good heat defense spray to try and keep it in the best condition possible.  A product I have used for years and keep going back to is the VO5 Heat Defense Spray because it smells good, lasts a long time, sprays evening overly my hair and most importantly protects my hair without changing it's texture.  I will definitely re-purchase this product but I've been using it for a long time now without trying any others so I am tempted to see what else the market has to offer.

Batiste Dry Shampoo // Review // Link

I've been using Batiste dry shampoo for years and my favourite in the huge range they offer is Tropical because the scent is refreshing and reminds me of holidays.  In the past I always would have said I would re-purchase this product without a second thought but the last canister I bought which was especially for brunette hair was faulty so I couldn't use it. I tried to get a refund but  Superdrug where I bought the product were extremely un-helpful as were Batiste themselves so unfortunately that experience has put me off re-purchasing.  I'm not going to say I will never go back to using this dry shampoo but for the time being I'm definitely going to try out some other brands. Are there any you would recommend?
