Review | Michael Van Clarke Travel Kit - Shampoo, Conditioner andPre-Wash Treatment

Michael Van Clarke Shampoo, Conditioner and Pre-Wash Treatment

Hello Beauties! I have another post for you today about Michael Van Clarke hair products because as promised in my posts about the event I attended and hair cut at the salon I would do in depth reviews of the products I am using. In order to give these products a good try and because I have quite a few from the range I have refrained from using any others so I can give them a true test so for the past six weeks all I have been using to wash and style my hair have been by Michael Van Clarke. I'm not going to talk about all of them here, instead this post will focus on those included in the Travel Kit which are the shampoo, conditioner and pre-wash treatment.

The *travel kit is a really affordable way to try new products and of course is ideal to use if you're going away because not only is everything in a miniature size so it is lighter and more compact but they also come in a very handy plastic case which is ideal to store toiletries in or to take on the plane.

Our hair goes through a lot day to day whether it be being exposed to the environment, colouring or heat from styling tools so it can easily get damaged particularly at the ends as this hair is older. To help combat this, Michael brought out a new range of  hair care called the 3 More Inches range that contains a cashmere protein and amino acid blend in order to help slow down the ageing processing and help your hair grow longer, faster and healthier. This range also contains no chemical nasties such as sillicones so when it is referred to as hair care it really is looking to improve the state of your hair rather than hide it by just improving the appearance like many products on the market seem to do.

The 3 More Inches range took years of research and was tested on staff and customers in Michael's own London salon in order to make sure the formula was as good as it could be.  As it contains no sillicones it aims to help the hair stay hydrated rather than block out moisture so the water that is lost through drying and styling the hair can be replenished from the atmosphere. Getting more into the science part, the cashmere molecules in this range are also the same size as water molecules so if any of these have been lost they are replaced so prevent the hair becoming more damaged or split as the structure of the hair is maintained rather than falling apart.

Hidden inside the travel kit, as already mentioned, are three 3 More Inches products which I will now speak about in more detail:

Michael Van Clarke Shampoo, Conditioner and Pre-Wash Treatment

Now I've spoken a little about the range lets move onto the shampoo itself.  The formula is very thick and concentrated so you don't need to use as much as normal (around a teaspoon size) so although it is more expensive than your highstreet products it does tend to last longer. The formula lathers up well when it is added to the hair and as you massage it in you can also smell the subtle floral scent which is delicious.  Before even using conditioner my hair is left feeling soft.

Michael Van Clarke Shampoo, Conditioner and Pre-Wash Treatment

Without fail I always use conditioner because it seals the hair and protects the outer cuticle. It also adds an additional level of heat protection as the 3 More Inches range includes this so you don't have to use specific heat protectors which is good because the less products you can use on your hair the better.

The conditioner is equally as lovely as the shampoo and sports the same pretty subtle floral smell. I apply it straight after the shampoo and again use around a teaspoon. Although the packaging seems to comb it through I rarely do because I forget to take my comb into the shower so I simple just massage it into my hair and wash it out.

After use my hair is left even softer and smooth to the touch.

Michael Van Clarke Shampoo, Conditioner and Pre-Wash Treatment

A pre-wash treatment isn't something I had ever used before and at first I thought it would be a bit time consuming but now it's something I enjoy doing. Once a week I apply the 3 More Inches Pre-Wash Treatment all over my dry hair which feels odd because I've only been used to apply treatments to wet hair but it means that it penetrates each individual strand of hair rather than just working on the surface.

The formula is very thick and you simply put some in your hand and run it through your hair, a bit at a time until it is completely wet. At this point you sit and wait either an hour or until the product Is fully dry. I wait until the product has completely dried as I apply mine once a week over the weekend and write up some blog posts while I'm waiting so it's no trouble at all.

On application my hair does feel heavy but as it dries it lightens and once it is fully dry and I wash it out the texture of my hair doesn't change (it's soft and smooth) but it's voluminous, healthy and shiny.

After the first couple of uses of these products my hair looked dull, slightly dry the ends and a little lifeless due to the sillicones being washed out and my hair getting used to this new formula but on the third wash everything changed. When I blow dried my hair it was beautifully voluminous, it had a healthy glow, was far easier to manage, and had a wonderful bounce. The transformation was amazing and since using these products I've lost count of the amount of people who have commented on how nice my hair looks and I can definitely see the difference too. Not only does my hair look better but as mentioned above it is so much easier to manage. Previously, my hair would frizz very easily so I had to carefully time when I would dry my hair after washing and make sure I had products with me to apply if there was any rain or humidity (I have naturally curly hair so it has a life of it's own when faced with different weather conditions). Now that has all changed. It doesn't matter if I leave my hair to dry naturally, blow dry it or partly dry it, it remains smooth and voluminous and there is no sign of frizz so it has made my life far easier!

It's safe to say I love these hair products! I have also found I don't need to wash my hair as often. If I wanted to I could easily go a whole week because the volume stays in my hair and it doesn't get greasy. I don't choose to do this because I like the feeling of freshly washed hair but it's good to know that I'm washing my hair because I want to not because I have to.

If you want to purchase Michael Van Clarke hair care products they are all available on his website as well as other places such as Beauty Bay (they currently have a discount), Selfridges and Space NK (online only). The price of the travel kit featured in this post are £24.00 and is a really great way to try out these products.

Monthly Round Up | Favourite June Posts

Monthly Post Round Up: June

Yet another month has passed and that means it's time for another round up of my favourite posts during June. This month saw a large variety of posts from beauty reviews, to tips, favourites and events and surprisingly I found it pretty easy to pick my favourites this time, some of which I feel very passionately about.  Here they are:

My favourite post of this month marked my dog's 4th Birthday and that was a story about her life so far. She is a rescue dog and a gift from my parents for getting a 1st in my joint honours degree in Business Adminstration with Computing with a Year in Industry. We don't know much about her past but when we first brought who own it become obvious some of things she must have gone through. This post tells all about the first day we saw Roo, to bringing her home and 4 years later how she is settled and rules the roost!

Next is a post I wrote about my experience at the Michael Van Clarke hair salon in London. The previous week I went to an event there we were all about the 3 More Inches range by the man himself and I was lucky enough to follow that up with my very own haircut.

While I was there I learnt more about hair care, the exclusive diamond hair cut they offer and more.

I've always been a big fan of Soap and Glory so I thought it was about time I wrote a blog post on my top 5 products. Even though there are loads to choose from, ranging from skin care to makeup I actually found it really easy to make my choices because these are the clear winners to me. I love each and every one of them, particularly the Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks.. they are amazing.

This month also saw another lifestyle post, this time about things to do in London. This is part of a mini series I am doing that was inspired by my boyfriends Birthday back in March when I was trying to think of places to take him as a surprise.

This post is the second in the series and covers a few interested places in London to visit whether you live there or are a tourist.

My all time favourite lipsticks are definitely either by Chanel or YSL and this month saw a post about my YSL Rouge Volupte Collection. I have three lipsticks in total which are all beautifully pigmented shades which the moist hydrating luxurious formula I have ever used.

I'm a little addicted to candles. I burn them pretty much every day as I find they create a really nice ambiance in a room, are relaxing to watch due to the pretty flicker of the flame and can make an entire house fill with their wonderful fragrance.

When I first started burning them several years ago I didn't realise there is actually a set method that should be used in order to prolong the life of a candle and make sure it burns correctly. This blog post is also about tips I have read about over the years or discovered myself.

Next is a post all about my current beauty wish list. This ranges from makeup to brushes and skincare and is definitely the list of products I am lusting after at the moment.

Last but not least is a review I wrote about a gorgeous hand made amethyst necklace by Kimberley Wilson. This isn't a brand I had heard of before blogging but is one I really like. This is one of the reasons why I love blogging so much. You can discover amazing small businesses that have so much on offer. This unique piece of jewellery is stunning.

Review | Haircut at Michael Van Clarke London Salon

Born Pretty Store Phone Cases

Hello Everyone! A couple of weeks ago you may have seen my blog post about the Michael Van Clarke event I attended in London where I found out a lot more about hair care, the industry and Michael's 3 More Inches products. I was lucky enough to make a return visit last week to have a *haircut which was amazing because at the event I had a hair consultation with Michael which made me feel really confident about what needed to be done.

When I arrived at the salon I was greeted by one of the lovely girls on the reception and given a gown to protect my clothes as well as a drink. It wasn't long until my hairdresser Lina popped over to say hello. She took me to one of the stations where we spoke a little about the notes Michael had made from the consultation, what I was looking for from a hair cut and her opinion on my hair.

I was a little nervous when I first arrived at the salon because I've had bad experiences at hairdressers in the past but I was soon put at ease and really felt that Lina listened and took into account what I wanted which made me feel much more comfortable. I love my long hair so I didn't want to lose too much length but at the same time was aware my hair was looking a little dry and worse for ware at the ends so something definitely needed to be done to rectify it. We agreed to only take off around an inch, to add long layers to add more shape and dimensions to my hair (my others had grown out and hadn't been cut in properly) and to remove as many split ends as possible.

Following this chat I was guided over to the basins where I sat in a massage chair and relaxed while my hair was washed with the 3 More Inches products. The products made my hair feel fresh and clean and also had a lovely subtle scent. Next I was guided back to the hair station where Lina blow dried my hair and took another look at it now that it was freshly washed. I love that she took time to look at my hair rather than just jumping in to get the cut over with straight away. She took a lot of care and attention and made sure I would leave with healthier hair and I style I would love.

At Michael Van Clarke they use the diamond cut technique which takes into account how the hair falls and the shape of the head. The hair is also cut dry so the hairdresser can see how it moves and falls so knows exactly how and where to cut in order to achieve the perfect style. It made me feel much happier having my hair cut dry as in the past hairdressers have ignored my request to remove as little as possible and have cut off 5 inches or so of my hair meaning that when it is dried (it is naturally curly) it shoots up and is too short for my liking.

In total I was at Michael Van Clarke for around two hours and I really enjoyed the experience. The salon had a really comfortable feel, the staff were very friendly and made you feel at ease and it was clear they were passionate about hair and very knowledgable. I asked lots of questions so I could understand what Lina was doing and how I can improve my hair care routine. For example, to only dry my hair until it is damp rather than until it is bone dry like I do at the moment and to stop using my straighteners As I have heat damage.

My final style wasn't hugely different to what I already had which was perfect because I didn't want a dramatic change.  At the same time, it was obvious how much healthier my hair looked and diamond cut and products added an extra dimension and bounce to my hair as it fell much more naturally than it did before. Since having the cut loads of people have commented on my hair whether it has been straight (ish.. with no straighteners) or curly and some have even said it's the best cut I've ever had.  Without doubt I will be going back!

As I have some heat damage to my hair I will be making a real effort to try and use my styling tools less and so far it's going well.  Instead of reaching for my straighteners every day out of convenience I now blow dry my hair with a round brush which although takes longer it gives my hair a pretty texture and curl I actually prefer and my hair still looks smooth. The only reason why I really used my straighteners so much was to reduce the frizz but now I can achieve that without them it's much better for my hair. I'm not saying I will never use them but I attend to only use heated styling tools on my hair 1-2 a week maximum if possible which should really help to improve the condition of my hair. The products in the 3 More Inches range also have been working really well and leave my hair soft and smooth without the use of any sillicones!

Overall I really enjoyed my experience at the Michael Van Clarke Salon and I can definitely see a positive difference in my hair. I'm looking forward to going back and love the extra volume and bounce my hair has!

What do you think of my experience at Michael Van Clarke?

Event | Michael Van Clarke

Michael Van Clarke Michael Van Clarke Michael Van Clarke

Last week I attended an event at the Michael Van Clarke hair salon in London which was amazing because not only did we get to hear more about the products but also a short history into hair care and the use of sillicones in products.

On arrival we were greeted by the lovely receptionist and were able to wonder around the salon while we were waiting for more people to arrive. The set up is really great. The salon has a fresh, clean and comfortable feel and is split into four different areas. The first being the reception and the other three for hair styling.

It wasn't long and the remaining people arrived and the champers began to flow. This was an exclusive event so there was only a handful of us but I liked that because it gave us a chance to interact with people and we had plenty of opportunities to speak with Michael himself and ask questions.

The event begun with a presentation by Michael which I really enjoyed because it was obvious how passionate he is about the hair care industry and his products. He told us how the first products were created such as the Frizz Ease brand by John Freida and educated us all more about the ingredients inside the majority of hair products we use every day, in particular the use of sillicone.

I found this really interesting as it was great for someone to actually explain the structure of our hair strands (97% protein and 3% water) and make us understand how products can affect them. I'm not going to go into a huge amount of detail now as I want to write up a separate blog post about this as it was extremely informative and helpful but in summary sillicones are in a huge amount of products whether they are shampoo, conditioner, hair spray, serums, oils etc and although they do improve the appearance of the hair they don't actually do anything to protect or repair it. This is where there is a fine line in the hair care industry.. although everything falls under 'hair care' not everything does actually care for the hair and instead is purely aimed at improving the appearance. Watch this space for more information on why this is etc

Michael also spoke about his 3 More Inches range which includes shampoo, conditioner, treatments, hairspray, mousse, tools and more. Each product took years to perfect and was created from the perspective of what professional stylists look for when working on clients hair and what the clients themselves look for in a product. The products don't contain chemical nasties and aims to add a natural bounce and volume to the hair by ensuring it does not get dried out as well as prevent the structure of each strand of hair getting more damaged. This means, after long term use your hair should be the same thickness all the way down and be far healthier.

After hearing about all the products we were lucky enough to have a hair consultation with Michael which was a great experience. In the past I have asked hairdressers about the condition of my hair because I've always been concerned due to the amount of heat I use on it and lack of hair cuts but have never really got a very confident answer because their knowledge wasn't quite as good. Michael however, spoke confidently with each person and for me, described a possible new style which isn't drastically different to what I have now but would make my hair more bouncy and fall more naturally. It was also very re-assuring to hear he though my hair looked nice and was in pretty good condition! Phew!

I had an amazing time at the event and definitely learnt a lot! I'm actually going back to the salon on Thursday to have my hair cut into the style Michael described.

If you want to try any products from the Michael Van Clarke range or visit the salon take a look the their website here. I will also be featuring in depth reviews of the products on my blog so watch this space if you want to find out more about them.

What do you think of this event? Have you tried anything from the 3 More Inches range?
